CALL FOR ARTISTS
Join Us for the 9th Annual NEON Festival Art Competition

Location: Cardinal Skate Shop, rear alley in the NEON District, Norfolk, VA
757 Makerspace and Cardinal Skate Shop are thrilled to present a unique and interactive Skate Deck Art Competition during the 2024 NEON Festival! This event is your chance to showcase your creativity, engage with the community, and potentially win amazing prizes.
How to Participate
Step 1: Register
Artists must register by October 1, 2024, using this Google Form. Registration is free and open to the public.
Step 2: Create Your Deck
Artists are responsible for obtaining their own skateboard deck of any size or shape. If you need a blank deck, you can order one through Cardinal Skate Shop by emailing cristina@757makerspace.com.
Types of Art Accepted:
•Graffiti and street art
•Pop culture references
•Abstract art
•Traditional illustration
•Collage/assemblage
Important: All art must be handmade and original. Digital prints will not be accepted, though you can use digital tools to help create your design. The final artwork on the deck must be hand-painted, hand-drawn, or hand-created. All decks must be sealed with a clear coat or sealant before submission.
Step 3: Submit Your Deck
Deliver your completed deck on October 11, 2024, between 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM to 757 Makerspace at 737 E 23rd St, Norfolk, VA 23504. Please attach a label with the following information:
•Your name
•Name of your art piece
•Materials used
•Minimum auction price (for the 50/50 auction split)
•Description and any other information you’d like to include
Note: Failure to follow submission guidelines will result in dismissal from the competition.
Prizes
•1st Prize: $1,000 cash
•2nd Prize: A swag bag of local gift cards and apparel worth over $500
•3rd Prize: One-month membership to 757 Makerspace
Event Highlights
During the NEON Festival on October 18, 2024, come out, bring your friends and the public will vote on the submitted decks, and winners will be announced at the event. The night will also feature live music, a disco-themed dance party, projection mapping, and more.
Auction Details
All decks will be auctioned off at the end of the night, with a 50/50 split between the artist and Cardinal Skate Shop. Please ensure your minimum auction price reflects this split. If your deck is not sold, you must take it home that night or arrange for pickup with cristina@757makerspace.com before the event.
